Highways & Maintenance

Haringey Council is embarking on a major transformation of the borough and to achieve this we are investing millions in our highway infrastructure which is the most visible, well-used and valuable physical asset managed by the Council. Our roads are crucial for the prosperity of the borough as they enable the safe and free movement of people and goods whether they are walking, cycling, driving, or using bus services.

Haringey is embarking on major highway asset management improvements, and we have created some exciting new permanent positions. These posts will help us to continue making major improvements on the highways network through essential works to our roads, highway structures, street lighting and drainage systems, so that they all work effectively.

About the role

The Highway Engineer will undertake work in one or more of the following areas:
• Major and minor maintenance of footways and carriageways
• Drainage and Surface Water maintenance
• Street Lighting
• Highway Structures
• New development related schemes
• E externally funded schemes
• Regeneration schemes including streetscape improvements

About you

You will have an understanding of the principal responsibilities of, and the key issues facing, local government and the public sector in respect of highways, maintenance, traffic and transport, design and management, Experience of designing and delivering planned and reactive highways projects maintenance schemes and a understanding of relevant highway management legislation and statutory duties, for example, the Traffic Management Act.
