About the Environment Agency

If you’re part of the Environment Agency, you’re part of the solution. Working with us means protecting and improving the environment for generations to come, tackling issues of national importance across a huge variety of disciplines. Our responsibilities span major industry regulation, flood defences, land contamination, water quality, fisheries, and conservation. Such a broad scope of work calls for diverse, multi-skilled teams and exceptional leadership: together, we’ll promote sustainable growth, tackle climate change, and secure a better future for everyone.

Your role with us

Working as part of a project team, you’ll be assigned to an area in the East Midlands, helping to plan and deliver a wide range of flood risk management schemes.

Through these schemes, you’ll create valuable partnerships with communities as well as our internal teams, businesses and risk management authorities. You’ll also help improve the data we use for making decisions on flood risk, and support on responses to flood incidents.

It's challenging work that makes a real contribution at a crucial time. At least one in six people in England are at risk from flooding, a threat which is rising due to climate change. Your work will reduce flood risk to both people and property across the East Midlands, and shape the flood risk management of the future.

Who we’re looking for

Although we do provide on-the-job training, you should have experience in managing competing demands, prioritising a workload and solving problems using a methodical approach. We’re also looking for candidates with good communication skills who can build effective working partnerships with a wide range of people.

You should have a degree or professional qualification in geography, science, engineering or another relevant subject. Alternatively, instead of a qualification, you could have the equivalent experience. Ideally, you’ll have experience in flood risk management, but this isn’t essential.

Your benefits with us

You’ll benefit from a culture that embraces difference and includes everyone, where you’ll feel supported and trusted to do the right thing. We’ll invest in you and allow you to grow and shape your career. What’s more, you’ll be able to have access to our great benefits package, including generous annual leave, an excellent pension, flexible working arrangements and the opportunity to be part of a variety of staff networks.

We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. To achieve this, we welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, sexual orientation, or religion. We also welcome applications for flexible working patterns.

Closing date: 20 November 2022, 23:55 hours.
