Job description

The Integrated Engineering team is responsible for creating and maintaining access within the Welsh Government Woodland Estate for the purposes of harvesting and other activities.  It is an in-house team that delivers the forestry civil engineering programme.

As a Civil Engineering Programme Manager you will lead the forward planning of a complex infrastructure programme that aims to deliver new forest roads, bridges, junctions, major tracks and complex secondary infrastructure in our forest estate. 

The successful delivery of this work will ensure that we will continue to meet our timber sales targets across the forest estate and that we continue to meet the high standards required by UKWAS. 

Using your engineering knowledge, you will help to coach and mentor other engineering staff in achieving safe construction by ensuring that aspects of individual projects are planned for and risk is designed out.

Whilst undertaking this work you will keep in mind NRW’s corporate goals and deliver the work in line with our Sustainable Management of Natural Resources principles.

Qualifications, experience and knowledge

1. Educated to a minimum of degree level in an engineering or related technical subject, or equivalent demonstratable experience.
2. Post holders should have significant experience of programme & or multi-project management and have or be working towards professional accreditation (E.g., Prince 2).  
3. Awareness of Environmental habitats and wildlife, and legislation which informs decision making in relevant.
4. Extensive knowledge, understanding and application of CDM2015 and other Health, Safety & Environmental risk management.
5. xtensive knowledge of drainage and water management in upland environments, complying with Forest and Water Guidelines and the European Water Framework Directive.
6. Experience of working with water-bound macadam road construction, ground & earthworks engineering in an upland/rural environment.
7. Surveying and Setting out road alignments.
8. Strong ICT skills in AutoCAD, ArcGIS and Microsoft Office software, including MS Project.
9. UK full driving licence.
10. Member of professional body e.g., ICE, IAgE.
