Job Details

Use your civil and structural engineering expertise in a new sector offering exceptional variety. Our client is a leading UK certification body for a range of essential and fundamental construction products and materials used in the heavy civil engineering and building industries. They are accredited by the National Accreditation Body for the United Kingdom “UKAS”. The certification they provide is essential for their clients operations and frequently required ahead of tendering for projects, as is the case on major schemes such as HS2, Hinkley Point, Battersea Power Station redevelopment and many more. They employ construction and engineering professionals drawn from the consulting, contracting and public sector. The successful candidate will join a team of highly experienced colleagues whose knowledge and advice is held in high regard. An initial period of training, followed by on-going support will equip you to transfer your skills, enabling you to make an important contribution to the success and evolution of the UK’s construction industry.

Your Role: Following a period of training you will visit construction sites, contractors and construction product manufacturers to provide advice on becoming certified and assess and advise existing clients to ensure they are upholding certification standards. This will include critical aspects of design, quality of raw material and calibration of equipment and plant. The position has a focus on the heavy civil engineering industry and the critical nature of certification means you will regularly have contact with senior client representatives.  You will be responsible for planning your weekly travel itinerary, assessing company management systems, production, testing/ control processes and site practices, competence of staff, testing and quality assurance procedures.

Your Profile: You should be a degree qualified civil or building structures engineer with a consulting engineering, contracting or public sector background. Working with a range of client contacts up to CEO level will require good interpersonal skills, you will be expected to maintain the excellent working relationships they have forged with their clients over the years. This will be made easier as you will be introduced to, and briefed, on these customers during a handover period ahead of the current job holder’s retirement. The position is predominantly home based with regular travel, you will need to be well organised and have a valid UK driving license.
