Job Details

Apply your civil engineering design knowledge within a new, well rewarded profession. This is an  opportunity to join a leading international forensic investigations firm. The position offers training, progression and a varied, intriguing civil engineering focused workload. You will learn how to investigate and discover the root cause of failures that have affected bridges, industrial facilities,  drainage systems, highways, ports & harbours  and much more. You will join an expanding civil & structural team, becoming a member of a respected international firm employing over five hundred experts. This would provide a move away from traditional consulting to a sector commanding high fee margins that remains busy throughout economic cycles. It will engage all of your technical and lateral thinking skills, provide variety and open the door to a range of career possibilities

Duties:  The investigation of a range of civil and structural engineering failures. Assignments typically start with a site visit and the review of the design, construction methodology, site conditions and materials used. If required, you will request component/ material testing, this would be carried out in their state-of-the-art laboratories. Using the information you have gathered you will unravel the cause of the failure, culminating in a report identifying the root cause of the problem and why it occurred. Specialist technical support is on hand when required. On occasion your findings will be used to settle cases in a court of law and your reports will be prepared with potential litigation in mind.

Training & Career Progression: Your line manager, a chartered civil engineer will provide training and mentoring. You will learn how to conduct investigations and how to interpret and present your findings. The consistent demand for their services means they are steadily expanding, you will have regular career reviews and the opportunity to advance when you are ready. The position provides a route to become an expert witness. There are a range of CPD activities and support can be provided to achieve chartered status.

Profile Required: A consulting engineer with four or more years civil or structural design experience. A lateral thinker and inquisitive by nature with an interest in problem solving. You will  learn how to present your finding so they can be understood by professionals from a non-technical background, and so they can withstand legal scrutiny. Written and verbal communication skills are therefore  highly valued in this profession. You must be the holder of a valid UK driving licence.
