The Regional and Local Roads Division of the Department deals primarily with roads policy, legislation and investment matters. It provides supplementary funding to local authorities for regional and local roads through a number of targeted programmes.  The regional and local road investment programme is a hugely important part of the National Development Plan.

Reporting to the Senior Adviser (Roads), the Engineering Inspector (Roads) will have policy, technical and administrative responsibilities for a number of functions of the Division. They will provide technical advice regarding road maintenance, new project proposals, road safety and active travel measures provisions and associated standards, and for the inspection of works.

The successful candidate will hold a qualification at minimum Level 8 (honours bachelor’s degree) on the National Framework of Qualifications in Civil Engineering that is accredited by Engineers Ireland and have at least 5 years practical post qualification experience in civil engineering work in a responsible/management position.
