Two vacancies have arisen for Engineer posts within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management team, which forms part of the Civil Engineering Services section. You will be part of a forward thinking and experienced team, which manages the delivery of both revenue and capital funded small to medium sized flood alleviation schemes. Other duties of the team include maintaining and inspecting flood risk assets, taking on the role of Lead Local Flood Authority under the Flood and Water Management Act and managing the council’s housing stock of septic tanks, wastewater treatment plants and pump stations.

We seek motivated individuals with a working knowledge of the construction industry, and an understanding of flood risk, surface water drainage and wastewater disciplines. You should have experience in dealing with complex and varied situations, with knowledge of relevant design codes and standards. A working knowledge of NEC procedures would also be beneficial.

You should hold relevant construction related qualifications and have relevant post qualification civil engineering and project management experience. An ability to translate technical knowledge into real outcomes, and communication at all levels including with the public and a wide range of stakeholders is also essential to the post.

In return the posts carry a competitive salary and offers a range of benefits including car mileage allowance, contributory pension scheme, generous annual leave entitlement and various flexible working options both office (County Hall, Beverley) and remotely as part of the council’s blended working approach. There are also fantastic opportunities for appropriate further training/qualifications including through an accredited ICE training scheme which the service area operates. The team has access to the latest flood modelling and design software, and continual personal development is encouraged at all levels.

The council is undertaking a review of pay and reward as part of its ambitions to attract and retain employees by having effective pay and development structures in place to support modern ways of working and to support the provision of Council services which meet local priorities.
