This exciting role sits in the Major Projects and Programme Delivery Directorate (MPPD), part of the Programme & Contract Management (PCM) team. The role is as the client Programme Manager taking responsibility for the leadership and delivery of the Depot Strategic Programme and a major office replacement, overall value circa £50m.

The role holder will lead the project delivery process from scope and brief development through to implementation for the client sponsor. Strong interpersonal and influencing skills are required to ensure that all project stakeholders are consulted and engaged fostering a fully collaborative and inclusive environment.

Personally (and through your team) you will lead supply partners, client representatives, technical specialists, and other partners to deliver successful outcomes. Applying your inspirational leadership and programme management skills, you will ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget with an exemplary Health, Safety and Wellbeing culture. The outcomes will have ultra-low carbon whole-life footprints and will provide class leading functionality, so enhancing the lives of our staff. Your judgment will be key; to succeed we will need to innovate and try different approaches.

The other part of the role is to engage, influence and advise at a senior level. As such you will be an integral part of a national peer group and will be key in helping us develop our programme management and our carbon net zero future.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

 

The Team

Major Projects & Programme Delivery (MPPD) have developed a new team, “Deliver, Enable, Centrally” (DEC). This team sits within Project & Contract Management (PCM) employing around 30 project and programme managers located across the country. Our programme is growing significantly with funding secured across a number of projects mainly focussing on developing long term strategies and best practise for inspection and maintenance of our business assets some examples being Navigation, T98, PSRAs, Cableways and Reservoirs.

 

Experience

  • A degree (or equivalent) in an engineering, environmental or geography related discipline
  • Chartered membership of a professional body such as ICE, CIWEM or APMP is preferred.
  • The ability to develop a resilient network of relationships with stakeholders including internal colleagues, statutory authorities, landowners, and local communities to negotiate agreements, consents, approvals, and external funding is crucial.
  • Experience and training in project and contract management, ideally within engineering, construction and/or flood & coastal risk management (PRINCE 2 or APMP qualification is desirable)
  • A track record for delivering results on large, technically challenging projects through leadership of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong awareness of the need for exemplary Health, Safety and Wellbeing behaviours and the importance of the climate emergency

As a national role the office location is flexible. The role will require regular travel to project sites and project team meetings in other Agency and Supply Partner offices. Overnight stays will be necessary from time to time. Driving licence ideally required as some driving may be necessary.
