Job Details

Do you want to be part of our Capital Projects team? Are you almost or already an Associate or Chartered Civil/ Structural Engineer who’d like to help drive our bioenergy with capture and storage (BECCS) technology? BECCS is the key to us achieving both our purpose – to enable a zero carbon, lower cost energy future – and our ambition to be carbon negative by 2030.

To help us become a global leader in negative emissions and a UK leader in dispatchable renewable power, we’re seeking an experienced engineer to work on our innovative technology projects. These include the UK’s first new pumped storage hydropower station for 38 years, the largest post-combustion carbon capture plant in the world and global new build BECCS projects.

As part of our multidisciplinary team, you’ll help manage the design and construction of these world-class projects and oversee the design phase of other programmes in Europe and the USA.

About the role

Working under a Chartered Lead Engineer, you’ll supervise graduate and specialist engineers (including contractors) to ensure they meet the highest civil and structural engineering standards. Through developing and promoting technical policies and best practice, you’ll provide guidance and support to inhouse and external project teams. You’ll also make sure the project falls within budget and the programme parameters.

This is a permanent role based at our power station near Selby, North Yorkshire so you’ll need to be able to commute daily. You’ll need a valid driving licence as your work may involve travelling to other Drax locations, and meeting external stakeholders across the UK.

About you

You’re approaching or will already be an Associate (AM) or Chartered Civil/Structural Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and have substantial and relevant UK-based post-qualification design and construction experience. Ideally, you’re already very familiar working within industrial process-led design environments and have played a key role in both FEED and UK EPC projects.

You’ll have the ability to apply basic engineering principles and take problems back to fundamentals while developing solutions that integrate the latest research and technological developments. A self-motivated team player who shows initiative and is competent to advise in design & construction, you’ll be used to working with a broad spectrum of experts and designers.

Personable and professional, with excellent organisational and planning skills, you’ll be able to demonstrate your ability to deal effectively with conflicting priorities. Delivering project milestones on time, to budget, and to the required quality will all be second nature to you.

You’ll also need excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to summarise for non-discipline experts the civil and structural engineering solutions to complex challenges.
