This is a hugely exciting time to join Solihull Council and have the opportunity to strategically lead our growing Highway Infrastructure Service.

As the Strategic Lead for Highway Infrastructure, you will be responsible for the Strategic Highway Contract, and leading the Asset Management, Flood Risk, Drainage, Tanker and Street Lighting Teams, working closely with the Head of Highway Infrastructure to ensure the successful development and delivery of a wide variety of maintenance programmes, schemes and infrastructure projects…. And there is plenty going on!

Over the next decade the new HS2 railway opens in 2030, the new Local Development Plan for the Borough and Solihull Town Centre Re-development Master Plan will be implemented. Economic growth is expected in several other high-profile areas including at Birmingham Airport, the National Exhibition Centre and at the Arden Cross development site. With this growth in both the residential and commercial sectors will come increased demand to use the highway network.

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced manager who is commercially astute and politically aware. You will have a proven track record of successfully developing and delivering relevant highways schemes and projects. You will also have a strong customer ethos, a collaborative approach and excellent communication skills across a broad range of diverse groups.

Partnership working is critical to our future success, and you will work alongside a range of partners to unlock potential and create opportunities for investment in the highway network and supporting infrastructure whilst balancing the need to manage risk.

A degree or substantial relevant experience combined with an in-depth knowledge of one or more of the relevant service areas is essential for this role.

In return we can offer you a unique opportunity to be involved in and shape a wide range of diverse and interesting projects, with potential for further professional development as the infrastructure programme matures.

Working for Solihull means that we can also offer employees a great working environment, together with a range of flexible working options, an extensive wellbeing offer, as well as attractive staff benefits including staff discounts and access to the Local Government pension scheme.

If you have a specific question or require further information regarding this post, please contact Dean Ward, Head of Highway Infrastructure at or on 0121 704 8559.
