Job Details

Our client has an excellent role available and is looking for an enthusiastic and driven civil engineer with proven track record in managing teams to join them as Head of Civil Engineering in their Guildford office.
This includes providing technical support and mentoring to staff, as well as communicating with clients, other consultants and colleagues to ensure a brief is agreed and adhered to in the delivery of projects whilst developing existing and new client relationships.
Responsibilities:
As part of this role, you will be responsible for the implementation of the business goals and strategy in support of the directors.
- Lead and grow the civil engineering team across multiple offices.
- Grow the civil engineering offering including developing new areas of expertise.
- Motivate staff through effective performance and career development plans.
- Ensure sufficient resources are assigned to projects to ensure successful delivery.
- Prepare sufficiently detailed fee quotes and scope of services for projects. Manage all aspects, including fees, and change control.
- Effectively manage own and team's time expenditure on tasks to ensure project delivery is within agreed budget and programme.
- Manage existing client relationships to ensure they remain healthy and seek rewarding new client relationships.
- Assist with the implementation of current business strategies to achieve business goals.
- Improve the quality of the design information produced by the company through proactive monitoring and intervention.
- Nurture an innovative approach to our technical problem solving, to ensure designs are compliant, buildable and economical and meet the client's brief.
- Use effective communication with general management and all persons involved with the design process to successfully deliver this role.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management System.
Requirements:
- CEng/IEng and MICE or similar.
- Experienced in leading and managing teams.
- Experienced in delegating and supervising work of team members.
- Experienced in acting as mentor to junior team members.
- Excellent understanding of engineering principles.
- Working knowledge of MicroDrainage, PDS, AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent organisational/time management skills.
- Experienced in business development
- Proactive approach to work.
- Commitment to continual improvement at a personal and company level.
- Excellent understanding of complex construction procedures.
- Understanding of financial reporting systems.
Key skills
- Conversant in designing to British Standards / Eurocodes and other design codes
- Competent in scheme design
- Able to use computer design and modelling software packages
- Experienced in below ground drainage design including SuDS
- Experienced in preparing drainage strategies and Flood Risk Assessments
- Experienced in highway design and negotiating sectional agreements
- Sound detailing knowledge
- Sound understanding of CDM Regulations
- Ability to develop different design solutions and appraise those produced by others
- Appreciation of contractual obligations
