Job Introduction
An exciting opportunity is now available for a Civil Design Engineer, or experienced Civil CAD Technician, based at our Castle Donington office. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled engineer to help us meet the needs of our EHV construction programs. The role reports to the engineering design team manager, under the guidance of our senior civil engineer. This is a unique opportunity for a civil designer to work in an environment not regularly found in the civil engineering discipline.
Rewarding success and development is important to us and as part of this role you’ll receive annual salary increases.
As part of our hybrid working approach and in line with our policy, this role allows you to apply for a mix of office and home working. Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need.
If you are offered a position, you will be required to successfully complete a basic DBS check that shows any unspent convictions or conditional cautions.
Main Responsibilities
We are seeking to recruit a Civil Design Engineer with experience/background within in the following areas:-
- The detailed design of civil engineering features, primarily substation buildings (new and modifications to existing), reinforced concrete foundations, steel structures, groundworks, roads and drainage.
- Preparation of detailed engineering drawings in an AutoCAD environment; specifically 2D wireframe but 3D skills may prove useful.
- Preparation of specifications for tender and construction purposes.
- Discharging the duties of a ‘Designer’ under the Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations.
- Ensuring compliance of civil design output with NGED policy.
Where applicants do not have familiarity with all of the above areas, they would be expected to demonstrate core skills or demonstrable experience within a civil/structural engineering discipline.
For example the role could be relevant to candidates with strong CAD Technician experience, or a recent Civil Engineering Graduate.
* Where applicants initially lack particular skills, appointment on a designate basis may be considered. Training and support will be given to assist the appointee to develop into the role where necessary. A proactive approach to their own development is expected from the appointed candidate.
The Ideal Candidate
Candidates should ideally be qualified to a national certificate level or equivalent in an engineering discipline. Ideally you will have experience in preparing and manipulating engineering drawings using computer-aided design tools (e.g. AutoCAD).
Candidates will further be expected to demonstrate customer focus, flexibility, good communication skills and an ability to manage a number of design commissions.
A full UK driving licence is required for this role.

In addition to your competitive salary, we offer a competitive contributory pension scheme where the company will double match your pension contributions up to a maximum company contribution 12%.
