Title: Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Location: London

Salary: £60,000 - £65,000

As a result of a robust and promising workload outlook and an ongoing team expansion, my client is actively seeking to hire a Principal Geotechnical Engineer for their London office. The selected candidate will assume a pivotal and enduring role within our team, tasked with advancing the professional growth of junior staff, expanding our client base, and contributing to the management of geo-environmental projects across the southern region

A good degree in Earth Sciences, Geology or Civil Engineering is required. An MSc in Geotechnics or Engineering Geology or a related subject would be beneficial but is not essential. Candidates are expected to be chartered/near chartered depending on level.

Demonstrated experience in conducting, scoping, and reviewing Preliminary Risk Assessments and Intrusive Ground investigations, including a grasp of current ground investigation techniques, sampling methods, and laboratory analysis procedures. Basic familiarity with contaminated land regulations and the planning framework, with support from geo-environmental specialists. Proficiency in interpretative report writing and review, encompassing a comprehensive understanding of ground models, geotechnical engineering characteristics, and soil behaviours. Competence in the preparation, review, and authorization of proficient Ground Investigation Reports and Geotechnical Design Reports. A thorough understanding of the assessment and detailed design of various aspects, such as temporary works (e.g., crane bases and working platforms), slope stability, shallow and deep foundations, earthworks specifications, reinforced earthworks, retaining structures, soil and rock engineering, ground improvement, ground movement, settlement, subsidence, mineral workings, natural cavities, and basement engineering. Experience in considering construction techniques and constraints, as well as conducting value engineering appraisals. Ability to manage projects and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary consultancy, with an awareness of the structural, civil, and transport capabilities within the broader firm.
