We are now looking for three individuals from civil or structural engineering backgrounds to retrain as Specialist Inspectors within our Construction Engineering Specialist Team (CEST) on a full-time, permanent basis.

One post is available in London, the others can be based in any of the other locations specified. Travel will be required with some overnight stays.

This is a unique opportunity for a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with a strong background in construction engineering to re-focus their career and take on an inspector position with our essential organisation.

You’ll be supported through a Specialist Training Programme (STP) to gain the skills and expertise to become a safety inspector. You will enrol on the STP and undertake a combination of study, practical experience and a final assessment ensuring you are equipped to operate at the forefront of your specialist area.

The Role

As a Specialist Inspector, after completing our Specialist Training Programme, you will inspect workplaces and analyse incidents to ensure employers comply with H&S regulations.

Working across a range of essential industries, you will review engineering-related incidents and provide expert opinions in reports to guide legal decisions, driving improvements and legal compliance.

Additionally, you’ll contribute information and advice towards policy, research and guidance to benefit other Government departments, the public, industry, professional bodies and trade associations.

Please note, enrolment in the Specialist Training Programme (STP) is a legal requirement that you will be required to study for and successfully complete.

About You

To be considered as a Specialist Inspector, you will need:

- Experience holding positions of professional responsibility for engineering activities
- A breadth of Civil and Structural Engineering experience, including knowledge of site processes and techniques
- An understanding of contractual appointments and the design, specification and practical application of design decisions on site
- The ability to assimilate complex technical information and convey this to a variety of audiences
- A full, valid driving licence
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification
- To be a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers (CEng MICE or CEng IStructE) and registered with the Engineering Council as a Chartered Engineer.

Please note, you will be required to spend periods of time away from home, with some overnight stays.
