Full time with a range of flexibilities, including hybrid working, aligned to our Worksmart arrangements.

About the role

We are seeking an engineer to join our small but busy engineering team, scoping, resourcing, and overseeing through to completion the delivery of a multitude of exciting and varied projects including coastal defences, flood defences, beach management plans, car park upgrades, parks and open spaces improvements, cliff safety work and managing our cliff and bridge inspection programmes. You will have experience in project management, procurement, design process and construction phase planning, providing quality and programme management support to the Engineering Projects Manager. You will also play a key role in helping to build and maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders and local communities through regular, clear, and timely communication channels.

Whilst our team may be small, you will have the opportunity to work with just under 40 engineering professionals, ranging from early career to sector leading subject matter experts, covering all areas of flooding and coastal erosion through our new partnership with South West Flood & Coastal; in addition to other industry experts, supporting your own development, developing the engineers of the future, and building a legacy of projects in East Devon.

[* The role will subject to a grading review prior to March 2025 which may negate the need for a market supplement.]

About you

Previous experience dealing with drainage, flooding and coastal environment issues and procurement experience are desired. Understanding of relevant health and safety regulations such as CDM are essential, and a sound knowledge of the legislation and contract management relevant to our engineering disciplines would be very beneficial. You’ll be a good communicator, and comfortable dealing with stakeholders at all levels, whether that be face to face, by telephone / video call, or in writing.  And you will be conversant with producing drawings and specifications.

You’ll also need a driving licence and be able to travel throughout the district as required (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).

About us

Our recent Local Government Association Peer Challenge highlighted that ‘EDDC is a great place to work, with engaged staff and members’ and that’s certainly true! You will be part of a Gold Investors in People (IiP) organisation which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment in which people want to live, work, visit and enjoy now, and for future generations.  And with our wide range of health and wellbeing benefits, our highly flexible and collaborative hybrid Worksmart working arrangements as well as our commitment to continuous learning and development, you can be confident of joining a dedicated community of colleagues who are Happy, Healthy and Here.
