My client is a leading civil contractor dedicated to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects across New Zealand. With a commitment to excellence and innovation, they specialize in a wide range of civil engineering projects, including water infrastructure developments. New Zealand is currently engaging in a massive period of infrastructure development with water at the forefront. To deliver the best, we need the best and so this contractor is happy to look overseas to secure specialists in their field.

They are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing and executing water-based projects, utilizing their expertise in heavy industry high-pressure systems. The projects in New Zealand will be water based but your experience could come from other sectors such as nuclear, petrochemical or other heavy industry. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to contribute to meaningful projects that have a lasting impact on communities across New Zealand.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of water infrastructure projects, with a focus on mechanical systems
  • Provide technical expertise in the analysis and optimization of high-pressure systems, ensuring efficiency and reliability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop project plans, budgets, and timelines
  • Oversee procurement activities, including vendor selection and contract negotiations
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure project success
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards throughout all project phases

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Proven experience in the management and execution of mechanical based projects In-depth knowledge of heavy industry high-pressure systems, including pumps, valves, and pipelines.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and project management software
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and a proactive approach to problem-solving
