The Role:
Great opportunity to join our dynamic and developing Design Teams
As a forward-thinking in-house business unit, the Hampshire Engineering Services offers a range of services to the County Council and other public authorities. Our Structures Design Teams are looking for highly motivated and technically strong Structural or Bridge Engineers to be involved in the delivery of challenging bridge design and maintenance schemes. We have a great team environment, and we support and develop our engineers, so they are continuously developing their skills.
Working in the Structures Design Teams, you will be responsible for project management and design of a wide variety of bridge replacement, strengthening and maintenance schemes, as well as the inspection and assessment of current bridges and other highway structures. Whilst taking a leading role of the scheme assigned, you will be working closely with a Senior member of the team to enable you to learn and expand your experience.
Our recent projects include design of a new integral two span continuous steel composite deck bridge as part of a bypass route (£26M scheme), a £5.5M bridge replacement scheme in New Forest, a £25M refurbishment scheme of 4 major structures spanning over River Test and Network Rail tracks, several small bridges and footbridges deck strengthening and replacement (varying from 100k to £1M schemes). Future work will include among others, multi-million railway footbridge replacement and strengthening of a 27 span concrete bridge, as well as continuing small replacement/strengthening schemes. In addition, we provide technical support to external clients, developers, contractors, and other local authorities.
About You:
To be successful in the role you will have the following knowledge, skills and qualifications:
- You should have a good understanding of relevant design standards (Eurocodes), construction methods and contract procedures.
- Educated to Degree level in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Have a knowledge and understanding of structural behaviour, design codes and materials.
- Knowledge in the project management, detailed design and construction of highway structures and other infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of contract procedures of construction projects.
- Ability to carry out inspections of county council structures.
- Experience in the use of CAD programmes for assessment and design of highway structures, such as Autodesk Structural Bridge Design, ARCHIE M and LUSAS.
